SCT Predictions

My opinion every single game is a coin flip and anyone can win. This season was impossible to seed with everyone beating everyone but Freehold and RBC.  This is just fun so please do not take it personal and I will update every round. 

Round 1
I would of picked Brick Memorial over Raritan, which was played Saturday. 5-1 Brick Memorial won

#16 Matawan vs #17 Rumson - Rumson challanged themselves with the schedule they put together and hopefully it will reward them in the postseason.  They will need to slow Shannon Reiser down who has been on fire lately. Prediction Rumson  3-2

#25 Ocean Twp vs # 8 Toms River South - Ocean's speed up top is going to give TRS defense problems, but TRS has maybe the best goalie in the Shore with Delaine Wilkinson.  Ocean will need to be able to handle the speed of Gianna Curci. My prediction first goal wins. Prediction Ocean Twp 1-0.

#13 Manasquan vs # Jackson Liberty - Liberty started the year on fire and have cooled off a little bit. I think this will be a chess match with Liberty's speed up front and Manasquans smart defense. Manasquan's set pieces with Renee Herbert will give Liberty trouble and I see Camryn Weise, who has been great this season, will be tested.
Prediction Manasquan 2-1 in OT

#12 Wall vs #21 Trinity Hall - Wall dropped their last two games, which is never good entering the post season.  They will need to find a way to get they're playmaker, Kiersten Brown, more involved on offense. Goalie Saige Santa Cruz has been great all season. Trinity Hall only has 5 wins but they play every game tough and its hard to score on them. They lost to Wall 2-0 early in the year. Prediction Wall 2-0 again.

#15 Marlboro vs # 18 Red Bank Regional - This can be a very exciting game. I think these two teams are very evenly matched. Marlboro will need a way to slow Ellie Lynch down and RBR goalie Harper Brechman needs to be on her game. Sophomore Carly Guzzardo can score from any angle for Marlboro and the passing from Christina Glaser and Olga Metelkine will pressure the RBR defense. Prediction 3-3 RBR advances on PKs

#7 Point Boro vs #26 Point Beach - Point Boro undefeated season ended on Saturday, but that is the type of game I think they needed for the postseason. They have not trailed all season going into that game. They play like a team out there and play for each other. Point Beach has a young squad but lead by senior goalie Morgan Highland. She will need to be on her game against Point Boro.  Prediction Point Boro 1-0

#10 Toms River North vs #23 Colts Neck - Colts Neck is another team that plays better then their record but can not finish games. They have a great defense and goalie in Mia Nikolic, but need to finish more consistent. Toms River North is not having their typical season, but do you want to bet against them. Madison DiEugenio, one of the best playmakers in the state and Alexis Garcia one of the best finishers are a lot to handle for any defense. Prediction TRN 2-0

#14 Central vs #19 Lacey - This should be an elite matchup with both teams having the ability to beat Top 10 teams. Central's offense is explosive with Hannah Lewis leading the way. The midfield with Harmon and Versnal set her up to light up the net. Lacey also cna light it up with Beth Stephens leading the way. I give slight edge to Lacey with their post season experience. Prediction Lacey 4-3

#11 Holmdel vs #22 St. Rose - Holmdel is lead by Taylor Bielan, who uses her speed and footwork to score. St. Rose, at times, show how good they can be. If they can come together they can surpise some teams in the SCT. They will need to containe Bielan and finish better then they have been. Prediction St. Rose 2-1

In a non divisional matchup, Lacey (6-2-1) defeated St. Rose (4-4) 6-2 in a lopsided game. Lacey, who started off the season slow has been rolling, winning five straight and going 6-0-1 since dropping their first two games.  "It was disappointing in the beginning because I really wanted to win this division," senior Beth Stephens said of Lacey's slow start. "We played two really tough teams right out of the gate, but we picked our heads up and  really came out against Donovan so we are motivited now to keep this streak going." Jackson Liberty at Jackson Memorial

The battle for bragging rights in Jackson took place this morning as Jackson Memorial hosted cross town rivals Jackson Liberty. In a hard fought game by both teams, Liberty was able to get their first victory over Memorial 1-0.  Sophomore Delaney Splathoff put in a penalty kick at the 50th minute to break the tie and score the games only goal.  Liberty was awarded the penalty kick when a foul was called on Memorial senior Chloe Messner after she made a slide tackle inside the box. She cleared the ball away from the Lions attacker but the ref called the foul and awarded the penalty shot.   The first half saw a dominant Memorial team who applied all the offense for the half. Junior Renee Wanzor along with Messner gave Liberty's defense trouble and made Liberty goalie, senior Camryn Wiese work hard for her first shut-out of the season.  Liberty was able to create more offense in the second half then they did in the first half.  The speed of senior Alyssa Gal...

SCT Rd 2 #19 Lacey at #3 Manalapan

 Great players step up in the biggest of situations and that is exactly what junior Vanessa Sarf did in the second round of the SCT against Lacey. Sarf scored four goals in a 5-2 victory for Manalapan to advance to the quarterfinals.  Manalapan got on the board first seven minutes into the game when freshman Daniella Butash scored off a pass from junior Kasey Resker. Butash just missed a blast a couple minutes early wide right.  Sarf was able to put Manalapan up 2-0 four minutes later when she scored on a rebound off a blast from freshman Nicole Savage that hit the post.  "One of our goals all season was to come out strong and take it to the team right from the start and not be on the defense for the first 15/20 minutes," Manalapan coach John Rogers said. "We came out strong and took it to them and the girls were really clicking today."
