Central Regional at Brick Twp
In a B South division matchup, Central Regional (1-1-1) defeated Brick Township (0-2) 4-0 in impressive fashion. The Eagles used their speed up front and precision passing in the midfield to open up the Dragons defense and put pressure on Brick Twp goalie, junior Trinitie Maloney, for the majority of the game.
The Eagles opened up the scoring when junior Emma Harmon scored her first of two goals of the day with a rip on the left side of the net at the twelve minute mark. She scored her second goal in the second half when she blasted the ball from about 25 yards out at the 59th minute.
"It's exciting," Harmon said of her two goal performance. "First win of the season we need to keep that mentality going forward and do it again."
Brick Township had a chance to tie it 18 minutes in when senior Cassi LoSasso missed a shot just wide of the goal. Their next chance to score did not come until the final minute of the game when senior Taylor Horvath had a shot then a rebound, but Central Regional was able to recover and close out the game.
"This year we are playing a new formation," Harmon said. "It will be better for our backline this year."
Central Regional's ability to work the ball from the midfield to the outside set up several nice crosses that resulted in the other two goals. The Eagles put their second goal in at the 22nd minute mark when junior Arianna Chidiac crossed the ball to classmate Cailey Bozinis who finished with a clear view of the net.
The Eagles third goal happened at the 53rd minute when Bozinis crossed the ball to senior Christina Jimenez who had an open net.
"This was well deserved," Central Regional coach Marykate Sullivan said after her first career win. "The girls have been working hard for it so I am just happy for them."
The style of play for the Eagles is different from last season where they played more kick and run offense instead of the style they played today with Harmon controlling the ball in the midfield and getting it out wide.
"She is awesome," Sullivan said of Harmon. "She has great field vision and she is great with the ball at her feet. We would not be the same without her."
Central Regional had several other chances, but Maloney came up with some good saves throughout the game to keep Brick Township in it.
