Manasquan at Colts Neck

In a reversal of fortune for Colts Neck (5-3) this week, they defeated division opponent Manasquan (6-3) 1-0 in a game that Manasquan was the dominant team. This game turned out to be the opposite in games where Colts Neck had dominated but was unable to pull off the victory.

Colts Neck was able to score during the 60th minute when junior Valentina Sepulveda scored from about 25 yards out off a pass from junior Jami Van Orden, one of the very few chances Colts Neck had in the half.

"She scored the same one against Matawan," Colts Neck Coach Kevin Hein said. "She has a real knack from shooting for 25 out."

Manasquan came out attacking in the second half and challenged the Colts Neck defense and junior goalie Mia Nikolic for majority of the half.  In the opening minutes Manasquan junior forward Kali Saito had a good shot on goal, but Nikolic was able to make the save. The following minute junior Rylie Rampone headed the ball that was saved off a cross from junior Renee Herbert.  Manasquan had several chances throughout the game because of Herbert's free kicks and corner kicks.

The Warriors had another chance to take the lead at the 55th minute when Nikolic made a save but did not have full control over the ball, but the Cougars defense was able to clear the ball out to end the threat.

Colts Neck was missing senior center back Kylie Jacoutot in this game and it took a few minutes at the start of this game for the back line to get organized with their communication.  Junior outside back Anna Casler was moved to center back and did a great job stopping several Manasquan attacks.

"We did a good job staying composed," Casler said. "We kept working together and did not make any mistakes. It helps with our confidence knowing we have a strong goalie backing us up."

"Without Kylie being in, a lot of kids are playing out of position. Anna normally plays outside back and I think she is one of the best outside backs in the county, moving to center back is growing pains and we are learning on the fly," Coach Hein said.

Player of the Game: Colts Neck Mia Nikolic for getting the shutout and coming up with 7 saves.

"Today in the second half I thought she put the team on her shoulders and she came up huge for us," Coach Hein said about Nikolic.
